Layering Warm Tones in Warm Weather
One of my favorite places to visit in Southern California is Julian. In the Fall, the trees in Julian fade from deep green to brilliant orange (the palm trees near the coast, not so much). The town's remote location and palpable charm make it a refreshing escape from the buzz of the city, especially in the cooler months. I like to go in the morning when the air is crisp and the breakfast is hot. Side note: props to the Julian Cafe for creating the most perfect cinnamon roll french toast on the planet.
In Southern California's fluctuating Fall temperatures, it can be hard to plan an outfit. Since temperatures can be dramatically different from morning to day to night, it's smart to wear layers so that you can adjust as needed.
Here I'm wearing a Paige denim skirt, a Madewell flannel, and a light camel coat (similar here). The flannel is light enough so that when I take my jacket off, I'm left with a hot-weather-appropriate outfit.
The colors in this outfit helped me get into Fall mode despite the warm temperatures. My sister says this flannel looks like Christmas. I decided to take that as a compliment.
My favorite part of this shirt is the neck tie because it adds a sophisticated twist to a casual piece. I matched the smaller lines in the plaid with the coat to tie it all together.
Tucking the flannel into the denim skirt gives the outfit shape and defines the waistline. I love doing this when I wear a coat because it balances out the long lines of the coat. As for makeup, I kept my eyes smokey and matched my lips to the maroon in the flannel.
When it got too warm for a coat, I was still comfortable in the outfit underneath (clearly lol).
These little weekend getaways are so recharging and they (kinda) satisfy my craving for all things Fall. Thanks so much for reading and I look forward to having you back!
